Welcome to Hangzhou
A bay city on the Qiantang River estuary of southeast China, Hangzhou is the capital of Zhejiang Province. With a history that dates back 2,100 years, Hangzhou is one of China's six historical capital cities. Hangzhou was first mentioned as an important urban settlement in 221B.C.. When the Grand Canal was built between Hangzhou and Beijing, the city grew rapidly in importance and prosperity. From the 9th Century on, over a period of 237 years, 14 emperors had chosen Hangzhou as the capital city. Marco Polo, the great Italian traveler of the 13th Century, cited Hangzhou as the most beautiful and brilliant city in the world.
Over years, Hangzhou has hosted presidents of many countries who expressed their admiration to Hangzhou's scenery after they had visited Hangzhou. Gushan (Solitary Hill), the Su Causeway and Bai Causeway,as well as the three artificial islets on the West Lake ,are a must for tourists.
The Temple of the Soul's Retreat ,half hidden in the woods, the Peak that Flew from Afar, Yue Fei's Temple, the Pagoda of Six Harmonies and Jingsi Temple are all frequented by visitors.
They may also find it an enjoyable experience to tour Wushan Hill, Yuhuang Hill and Baoshi (Precious Stone) Hill around the lake, the three famous springs at Longjing, Hupao and Yuquan.
Viewing Goldfish at Flower Harbor, Lotus in the Breez at the Crooked Courtyard and Listening to Orioles Singing in the Willows are also interesting scenes to visit.
Since 1980s, there was built in succession, the China Silk Museum, China Tea Museum, Huqingyutang Chinese Traditional Medicine Museum, The Southern Song Dynasty Official Kiln Museum and the Liangzhu Cultural Museum, which represent China's culture.
